Key feature 01 / 05
Robust content editor
Content is organized in chapters that contain elements such as headings, paragraphs or rich text. The chapter structure allows several people to edit content at the same time, and Moodle’s Global Search indexes all major element types.
Key feature 02 / 05
Interactive elements
Add interactive H5P content in every plan. With Pro, include questions from the question bank, polls, ratings, images and Video Time elements. H5P, questions, polls, ratings and Video Time can be made mandatory.
Key feature 03 / 05
Appearance
Each element comes with options for appearance, animations and responsiveness. Elements can be styled globally by type to match your branding guidelines, keeping content, layout and style separate.
Key feature 04 / 05
Tracking and completion requirements
Mandatory elements, progress bars and completion conditions keep learners on the intended path. With Pro, question and H5P grades go to the gradebook, and activity reports show progress and time spent.
Key feature 05 / 05
Adaptive paths and evaluation
With Pro, responses to ratings or polls unlock activities or sections — for a specific answer, any answer or none. Ratings linked to variables such as skills or satisfaction are evaluated across courses in report builder.
Content Designer at a glance
Faster authoring, consistent design
Content Designer simplifies mobile-first content authoring, supports collaborative workflows and saves cost for separate authoring tools.
Everything about Content Designer
Overview
Authoring directly in your Moodle course
Content Designer is developed for instructional designers and collaborative content creation. Its architecture follows their workflow: start with a high-level concept, break it down into individual elements, then add content for each part. Chapters allow simultaneous collaborative editing.
Each element comes with options for appearance, animations and responsiveness and can be styled globally by type. The separation of content, layout and style makes authoring faster and suits quality management and corporate design compliance. Special elements add H5P, questions from the question bank, polls and Video Time, each with mandatory options.

Content in chapters; create, reorder, duplicate or hide parts.
Learning material is divided into chapters containing related elements — optimized for small learning modules that combine text, images, videos and H5P.
Several authors work on the content at the same time.
Moodle search finds Content Designer elements in context.
New in 1.6: Global Search indexes headings, paragraphs, images, videos, polls, ratings, H5P and more; results link to the parent chapter.
Titles, descriptions and key content of all major element types are indexed by Moodle’s Global Search. Results link directly to the parent chapter.
Headings, paragraphs and rich text with media.
Interactive H5P content in chapters, with mandatory option.
Collect votes with a detailed report, with mandatory option.
Real-time feedback, linked to variables for evaluation.
Learners give real-time feedback directly in the content, with mandatory option. Ratings are linked to variables and grouped by type, can control course paths and are evaluated across courses in Moodle’s report builder.
Question types from the question bank, with mandatory option.
Add knowledge checks with questions from the question bank. Reuse existing question collections and place them anywhere within the content.
Single images or carousels, with captions and lightbox.
New in 1.6: Image element with single images, automatic carousels for multiple images, optional captions and lightbox mode.
Video Time activities as a native element, with mandatory option.
A closing element with images or motivational messages.
Table of contents, blocking and chapter completion modes.
A table of contents shows all chapters and where learners left off. Decide whether mandatory elements block further content, and whether chapters complete manually or automatically.
Learners complete H5P, polls, Video Time or questions first.
A progress bar shows the completion status.
Require the entire content or only mandatory elements.
Entrance animations; elements appear while scrolling.
Background colors or images; heading alignment.
Content display optimized for desktop, tablet and smartphone.
Optimize how content is displayed on desktops, tablets and smartphones, for better accessibility and a consistent experience across devices.
Style elements by type to match your branding.
Content in popups of Popup activities, Level Maps and Designer.
Grade questions and H5P with attempts and grade to pass.
Question and H5P grades are recorded automatically in Moodle’s gradebook. Configure manual or automatic attempts with a retry limit, custom scales or points, a grade to pass and the gradebook category — and, with multiple attempts, which one counts.
Activities or sections unlock based on rating or poll responses.
Conditions react to a specific response, any response or no response, so course creators design adaptive learning paths.
Progress by chapter, time on task, grades; reset and export.
Records first start, completion date and last access per learner, with a progress bar based on completed chapters. With grading enabled, total, question and H5P grades are added with color indicators. Teachers can reset a learner’s data so they restart the activity, and export the report.
Platform-wide, continuous and pre/post evaluations of ratings.
A report source for Moodle’s report builder, structured by variables such as skills or satisfaction: platform-wide evaluations across courses, continuous feedback throughout the course lifecycle, and pre- and post-evaluations that compare results over time.
Learners bookmark chapters and take notes per chapter.
Learners bookmark individual chapters and revisit them from their profile, and take and manage notes for each chapter.

Data protection & hosting
Your data stays in your Moodle. Content Designer runs entirely inside your Moodle site and stores its data in your Moodle database and file storage, on your own server. bdecent does not run a cloud service for it, and the plugin never contacts bdecent: no licence checks, no telemetry, no usage tracking. Access is controlled by Moodle roles and capabilities, so only the people you authorise can see or change it. Content Designer implements Moodle's Privacy API, so its data is included when you export or delete a user's data for GDPR requests.
Accessibility & license
Content Designer is built with Moodle's own template system and the Bootstrap components of Moodle's standard theme Boost, so it follows your theme's colours and fonts. Image elements use their caption as alternative text. We have not published a formal WCAG audit yet — if something gets in your way, tell us and we will fix it. Released under GPLv3, like Moodle itself.
